The story

The Springbank 12 Year Old Cask Strength is a highly coveted expression from one of Scotland's most traditional distilleries. Bottled at its natural potent strength, it offers an unadulterated and intense dive into the unique Campbeltown character, making it a must-have for serious collectors and connoisseurs who appreciate robust, complex whiskies.

Springbank

Campbeltown, Scotland

Springbank is Campbeltown's defining distillery, family-owned by J & A Mitchell since 1828 and one of very few to floor-malt, distil and bottle entirely on site. That self-sufficiency and a refusal to chase volume have made its releases — Local Barley, Countdown and the older Mitchell bottlings among them — some of the most pursued in Scotch, with allocations selling out instantly and sealed bottles climbing well past retail.

Tasting impressions

Nose

A classic Springbank nose with a wonderful interplay of gentle peat smoke, sea spray, and damp earth, layered with notes of ripe orchard fruits, honeyed barley, and a hint of greasy engine oil.

Palate

Oily and full-bodied, delivering a powerful yet balanced burst of flavour. Expect sweet malt, salted caramel, black pepper, and a building wave of delicate coastal peat, intertwined with red berries and a touch of mineral brininess.

Finish

Long, warm, and satisfying, leaving behind a delightful echo of smoky sweetness, a touch of liquorice, and persistent sea salt, with a dry oaky conclusion.
