The story

I participated in the Ballot and was lucky to win one of the 500 bottles in this series.
This Springbank 30 Year Old, part of the coveted 'Countdown Collection', is a rare and profound expression from one of Scotland's most traditional distilleries. Its extended maturation in Campbeltown's unique climate has crafted a whisky of exceptional depth, character, and balance, making it a highly sought-after jewel for serious collectors and connoisseurs alike.

Springbank

Campbeltown, Scotland

Springbank is Campbeltown's defining distillery, family-owned by J & A Mitchell since 1828 and one of very few to floor-malt, distil and bottle entirely on site. That self-sufficiency and a refusal to chase volume have made its releases — Local Barley, Countdown and the older Mitchell bottlings among them — some of the most pursued in Scotch, with allocations selling out instantly and sealed bottles climbing well past retail.

Tasting impressions

Nose

A complex bouquet of maritime brine, gentle earthy peat, and ripe orchard fruits like apple and pear, beautifully intertwined with notes of polished oak, vanilla pod, and a hint of dried mango.

Palate

Rich, oily, and full-bodied, delivering waves of chewy toffee, dark chocolate, and ginger spice, alongside the distinctive Springbank coastal salinity and a whisper of Campbeltown 'funk', evolving into dried tropical fruits and old leather.

Finish

Long and warming, with a lingering sweet peat smoke, dried fruits, and a dry, oaky influence, leaving a satisfyingly complex and slightly salty aftertaste that beckons another sip.
